Office 365 Standard Response to Request for Information – Security and Privacy

Office 365 Standard Response to Request for Information – Security and Privacy

The Cloud Security Alliance published the Cloud Control Matrix, to support consumers in the evaluation of cloud services and to identify questions prudent to have answered before moving to cloud services. In response to this publication, Microsoft has created this document to outline how we meet the suggested principals and mapped them to the International Standards Organization (ISO) 27001:2005 and ISO 27002. With this standardized response we would like to empower customers with in-depth information to evaluate different offerings in the market place today.

Cloud Solution Sustainment – A SharePoint Service Delivery perspective

Cloud Solution Sustainment – A SharePoint Service Delivery perspective

I was privileged to be speaking at the Workflow for Everyone, Everywhere conference hosted by Nintex at Microsoft UK in London on Wednesday the 16th of April. I shared the stage with Pete Hampton, Productivity Specialist Sales Manager at Microsoft, Nintex and an elite team of industry experts, Microsoft SharePoint specialists and MVPs. This was a free, one-day seminar that showed how to get more out of your existing workflow investments, and showcase ways to help create integrated, on-premise and online workflow solutions.

It was a great event. Attendees found out how their industry peers have improved their businesses, got exclusive industry insight and best practices, and saw for themselves how Nintex solutions keep work flowing for users – wherever they are, however they work.

In just one day attendees learnt:

  • How to create efficient processes – Find out how to automate everyday processes for rapid ROI
  • How to get more from SharePoint – Get the inside scoop on how to get the most out of your SharePoint investment
  • What the industry really thinks – Industry experts take on market trends, solutions, and more
  • SharePoint best practices – Hear from SharePoint MVPs and specialists on how to integrate your business processes with your cloud services and beyond
  • What your peers are up to – Network with your peers and hear their real-world success stories
  • How to empower everyone, everywhere – Integrate and extend your business processes on-premise, in the cloud, and via mobile, and social

I conducted a session on Cloud Solution Sustainment which was my take on the current Cloud situation, its impact on the delivery process, and what IT and the Business should do to ensure that whatever cloud solution they take on follows a process of evaluation and provision.

Analysing Site Activity in SharePoint 2013

Analysing Site Activity in SharePoint 2013

Tracking site usage is a very important method of identifying and helping sustain user adoption of a SharePoint 2013 site. Using site usage statistics can help prove the take up of a new SharePoint site, identify shortfalls in the design, and indicates how searches are being used and whether they are effective and optimised. There is a usage report available in SharePoint 2013, which shows historical usage information about the site, such as the number of views and unique users.

Some key SharePoint 2013 features

Some key SharePoint 2013 features

User Adoption of SharePoint is based on meeting the goals and requirements of the business sponsor. To do that, there is an importance in ensuring that the correct features are applied to the relevant solutions to meet their goals. Platform Governance is key; since there would need to be knowledge of the relevant features and an understanding therefore in how they would be implemented, supported, maintained in an evolving SharePoint landscape. This is particularly important in deciding on the migration path of SharePoint 2010 to 2013, since quite a few features have been enhanced.

Office 365 becomes part of Microsoft Office Specialist Programme

A major important milestone in the step to get information workers creditations in the use of Office products. Just last year I completed the SharePoint Study guide for Microsoft Office, and now in not the too distant future (in fact in late August to be precise), Office 365 will get an exam study guide. In fact, the author happens to be my co-author for the brilliant study guide for Office 2010 (including SharePoint of course!).

This is I think a major move on the part of Microsoft who are keen to ensure that educational establishments, armed with the free offer of Office 365 will now also be able to offer courses, examinations and creditations for information workers to place on their CVs, and shout to the world they are proficient in the use of Office 365! The awesome news is that Office365 for Education is FREE!!!
This product ncludes Exchange Online, Lync Online, SharePoint Online and Office Web Apps. The Office 365 Exchange Online component is basically the same as Live@edu’s Outlook Live, so transferring from one to the other should be fairly straightforward.

This makes things easier for Universities to provide access to their students and provides them with a major benefit in the provision of course material.
