I’ve been getting quite a few calls from customers who are in the process of taking SharePoint 2013, who are currently SharePoint 2010 users and quite rightly concerned about what functionality is not available in SharePoint 2013.

I would strongly suggest anyone considering moving from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 carry out a full capability check on whether their functionality will continue to exist, and can even be provided as on-going solutions.

A great example of an epic fail in this area was for one SharePoint admin who called me saying that they had thought they successfully migrated, only to find that a significant area of functionality was missing, particularly with Chart Web parts (which does not exist in SharePoint 2013).

For example, Workspaces are no longer available in SharePoint 2013. The workaround is to look at different ways of collaboration, meaning the increased use of products like Lync and tighter integration with Outlook…
